Switching to EVPlay stopped. Had to full reset Rivian to return functionality.

Same issue here (Gen 1 R1T). As with others, it seems to be getting power as the stock system is working fine, but switching doesn't work. Mine was issue free for around 2 weeks before this happened. I am guessing it's crashed/offline as I don't see the BT device trying to connect, but that's not really a good indicator.

Jumping in for an explanation to help troubleshoot.

The yellow wire provides constant power to the module responsible for maintaining the connection between the Rivian infotainment system and the screen. The red wire is a switched signal wire that boots / shuts down the Android module, which is responsible for switching and touch (among other things). If the Android module loses power (the best indicator as mentioned is no fan or flashing blue/red light), then the device won't switch.

The question is, why did it suddenly lose power? Did the red tap come out (most common) or did a fuse blow? Is it a hardware issue within EV Play? Did the cable go bad (very rare)?

A hard reset generally resolves this, but it could be something else. As always, feel free to reach out via email - alex@evplay.net and we can discuss what might be happening.

@evplayadmin

So Alex with my unit I just unplugged the power cable from evplay (which was VERY securely seated) and plugged it back in, so that essentially rules out all the loose connection/fuse/ bad cable issues. It is working fine today. I'm thinking some software issue with sleep/ wake

I have had the unit not respond to switching multiple times after a short stop. Waiting for the Rivian to go to sleep has always fixed the device.

I am experiencing the same behavior. Although mine *seems* to only stop switching after a long sleep. I haven’t fully secured mine under the dash. It’s just secured up on the foot well so I can see lights and fan. When it’s having a moment I press the button, I can hear the click at the unit (so I know it has power) but no switch.

of note, in this state, I can see the glow of the red led, but no blue led. Additionally I don’t see a blinking blue led on one of the usb dongles.

being mine is in the open, I just pull the power and reseat it. I loose the main screen momentarily (expected) but it returns when power is reapplied and evplay is now working and switching.

just adding my observations to help zero in on the issue.

Looks like I am having the same issue. It started this morning before leaving for work. The unit was working perfectly with the exception of the fan not coming on during power up. Performed a soft and hard reset and the screen will not switch. I check the bluetooth connectivity and the unit will not connect when I attempt to switch from my phone to ev play.  I will unplug unit in a few minutes, wait 30 seconds and plug back in and see if a cold restart will launch it. Will report back once I perform this check.

The cold restart worked. Fan is still not functioning but at least I was able to switch to the EV Play screen. Now to figure out why the app or hardware froze up.

Performed a cold restart this morning, but I still cannot switch over. Going to pull the dash open again this weekend and see if there are any lights and I can power cycle the device directly.

@arrrrwontee Next time this happens, notice if EV Play's fan is spinning & blue/red light is flashing inside the device. Otherwise, did you see the email about the new watchdog app?

Yes, I got the email. I was rebooting the truck to get the system back so that I could install the app. Will hopefully have time to open up the dash and look tomorrow.

I am having the same issue. EV Play worked for several days but no longer able to switch via the button. My fan is really loud, and the fan doesn't seem to be spinning. Was hoping a soft or hard reset may fix the issue, but no luck so far. Will open up the bottom to see what's going on, but hoping that others can figure out the issue. I am in a G1 R1S. Thanks.

I installed EVPlay and 14 hours later I could not longer switch to EVPlay via the button. I had to full reset (outter left steering wheel button + hazard button) - not soft rest (two outer most steering buttons) to restore function.

I will update this thread if the issue persists.

Let me add my voice to this chorus of issues with lockup. I either have to do a hard reset or leave the vehicle or walk far enough away so that the phone no longer has a connection to the vehicle via bluetooth. Gen 1 and WD and EVPlay has been updated.

UPDATE:
I suspected my issue was HW related (as you see in prior posts).
I added the watch dog and have had 100% functionality since.
I suggest everyone update the SW and add the watchdog.
I will update both EVPlay and the watch dog SW today.

Thank you Alex - EVPlay is absolutely awesome!
