@evplayadmin I open the footwell back up and peaked in there. Fan was running but a solid red light so I went ahead and power cycled the Evplay box and received the blue/red pulse after the reboot. The switching to the EVplay UI is now back and working. I'll send the logs if that helps with future updates.
@clark Great to hear, let me know if any other issues arise. If it happens again then yes, I'll request logs.
In case it can help anyone. Hard reset has revived mine when it won't switch

This is unfortunately happening to me. It came back but 3 of the 4 last drives resulted in this issue. Does know what the permanent fix is? Read this thread and it would be helpful if someone can describe what was done. Thanks!!
OK, after some back and forth email, we determined that I could not connect to issue ADB commands.
Alex sent out a replacement unit to swap out and I installed that. The screen is now switching, but seems a bit less smoothe (screen occasionally sputters + significant delay before touches registered both on EV Play and Rivian UIs), sometimes does not switch UI at all. I note that one the replacement unit, Developer mode (and thus UsB debugging) was not turned on when received.
Will follow up issues on a separate thread as these seem to be separate issues.
Hi, I am having the same issue after 1 day. Sent email to support for guidance. I am fairly tech savvy as well and can possibly troublehoot issues as well. Fan is also not working at initial power up and is ppersistent.Everything was working before this happened. Installed apps and ran Android auto. I will check power etc. shortly and thanks for your assistance!
@evplayadmin Hi, I am having the same issue with the unit and have sent a support email to you for follow up. Issues: Installation was successful but on power up, fan did not turn on but saw the device boot up. Was able to see the splash screen for EVplay and was able to complete configuration and got android auto working. I have a Gen 1 R1T. Installed some apps to run natively without issue. Next day, screen would not switch. Did troubleshooting and unit was powered on. Once I disconnected the power from the unit, the main screen went black. Reconnected power and screen came back on for Rivian UI. Followed other's troubleshooting with exception of directly connecting to access ADB. I suspect the unit maybe defective unless there is a way to access the device and determine if there are additional things to be done. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
I cannot speak to the issues with hardware. My device seemed to have worked throughout this issue as I was still getting:
- I will still getting IP on my network on the EVPlay
- Device was powered on, flashing lights, etc.
- My phone was still connecting to the devices wifi/bluetooth for CP
The behavior for me started when I signed into my Google account via the Play Store. This is when Google encryption and passcodes/patterns locked down the Android Framework in my case. I didnt think it was going to be an issue until I walked out of my vehicle and everything went to sleep. Thats when I started having the issue of not being able to use the switch.
I reached out to @alex via email and told him that I found the device on the network and I was able to pass ADB commands to it. Depending on your OS (Im on a MAC and installed using HomeBrew) you can search how to install it and remotely manage the device on your network. If you had EVPlay connected to the Rivian hotspot - look there as well. You should be able scan your network for whatever is listing on TCP 5555 and get an output.
example - nmap -p 5555 --open 192.168.111.0/24
Alex provided me 3 commands that you need to run while in front of your screen that will switch your screen to the EVPlay UI. Upon my discovery I found the device to be on a lock screen. I had to use the hardware keyboard to input my passcode but I was then back to the Android desktop. I had to disable the screen locks to get everything back to what is was when I received the device.
Alex - are you ok with the commands being put out there in the forum? I think it would be beneficial for everyone to force switch the device for troubleshooting purposes.

I logged into my Google account as well when I was at the play store. Events seem to be very similar. I did add my home network wifi so I will turn off my rivian Hotspot and look from there. For Alex, if it is better not to have those commands out in the forum, then an email would be better. I am still concerned that the fan is not operating and could impact the performance of the device.
Thanks for the response!
@rivian_dad Confirming your phone is connected to CarPlay, but your screen is completely black on both the EV Play and Rivian source? Try long pressing the remote button.
