Installed 2 days ago and have really been enjoying my EV Play in our gen 1 RIT. However, as of this morning, the remote switch doesn't seem to work any more.
I can see the red light on the switch illuminate with each key press and there is an electronic "click" emanating from the EV Play unit each time it is pushed, but the infotainment screen remains Rivian.
Steps taken trying to resolve, all with no joy:
- reboot Rivian infotainment
- reboot vehicle (hard reboot)
- disconnect power from EV Play unit, wait a minute and reconnect
- disconnect power from EV Play unit, wait a minute and reconnect, reboot Rivian infotainment
- disconnect Canbus connector from EV Play
- reconnect Canbus connector from EV Play
Through all of these steps the EV Play unit continues to chirp each time I click the remote button, so I am pretty sure it is receiving button presses.
Missing my EV Play already.
i was having the same issue the other day. My issue originated after I tried the EVPLAY reboot option within the UI. After completing reboot the system wouldn't turn back on, but I could hear the UI switch engaging in the background. I attempted the same series of steps you did aside from initially pulling power at the fuse panel. Luckily for me, the removing source power at the fuse panel brought the system back to life.
Watching this thread if the issue arises again.
I am having this same issue now. I will try taking it out and completely disconnecting power to see if it fixes it and let you know.
I tried the power cycle with no luck. The problem started last night, it was weird. I also hear the switch clicking when I press the button so I know the button is working.
@Alex - I am a technical user and am familiar with running adb commands over the network from my laptop so if I can help troubleshoot this, just let me know. I am able to reach the device and run shell commands, I just don't know what to check.
Actually, I just figured it out. I had to run "monkey -p com.example.evplayv1 1" from the shell. Then I could switch and it prompted me to answer whether I should allow EV Play to discover nearby devices and whether I should allow EV Play to run in the background. I allowed both. Not sure what caused that unless it was an Android update potentially?
@tjdavisbz We are hiring if you are looking for a job! Nice work. There is an update available to help address this, but the user has to accept it at runtime (or if the Check Updates button is pressed).
Just installed mines and after few hiccups it started working.
Unfortunately about 5 hours later when I got back in, the screen doesn't switch. Everything seems to be work and I did the same suggesting for the OP, but no switching. Fan and lights works and I can hear a click from the box when I press the button.
Is there a way to run commands without the pairing code? My center screen went completely blank when rebooting the device, and it won't show the native UI or the EVplay ui. I was hoping to avoid taking everything apart. I can ping it through terminal, but don't have a pairing code.
@mundomann Please email alex@evplay.net and I'll walk you through getting it back online.
@cmtaylor963 To confirm, the device is online because you can ping its IP, but your center screen is blank? Did you have AA or CP previously working?
OK, I'm still stuck with no screen switching.
Disconnected power from the unit for a couple of hours. No change when reconnected and infotainment rebooted. Black screen when powered off.
I have not been able to connect with adb via USB. Is there a specific USB port I should be using?
I switched off the hotspot in my Rivian which caused the EV Play device to connect to my home network. I identified it's IP address and can ping it, but not connect with adb. (Have had both 10061, connection actively refused, and 10060 timeout errors). Like @cmtaylor936 can't adb pair without a code.
Can't connect to the Autobox wifi SSID without a passcode.
Could use a little help resolving or maybe directions to reset the unit... if not then time to swap it out.
@rivianero Yes, the blue USB port is for ADB. I have found it picky with USB cables - should be a USB-A to USB-A
Email me at alex@evplay.net and I'll walk you through the commands.
Yeah, I'm experiencing this too. Won't switch, stays on Rivian screen, and I hear a click from the unit when I click the button. I'll send an email too so I can try the adb commands.
Updating here in case it helps anyone else. My issue resolved itself, i did leave the vehicle for about 30 minutes so it may have been a deep sleep. Or, more likely, just prior to the screen switching issue i had done a full reboot cause i had some error codes and turtle mode that i suspect may be related to my comma 3x. My r play didn’t have the blue light or fan on when i was looking at it initially, and now it was all back on and working just fine. So possibly just a slow to wake module after the reboot too.
I have blank screen now. Did both types of Rivian reboots still no screen coming back up. Unplugged power on unit and appears to come back but no Rivian screen (black) Device seems to be working as my phone connects to CarPlay. I hear a click in the device when clicking the button.
