When I push the switch button, the red light on the button comes on, but the UI isn’t switching over to EV Play UI from Rivian UI. It’s happened four times so far and it appears to be happening by after the car has been asleep for several hours. The only way for me to get it to work again is by unplugging the power from the EV Play device. Any thoughts, or do I have a defective device?
These symptoms also happened to me once, but has not reoccurred since. I also tried rebooting the infotainment and that did not work, but like you mentioned, pulling the power on the EV Play directly did work.
For me, it happened while trying to install an app on the android side, and it seemed like Android fully crashed and became unresponsive. I assumed that it was from something I was doing so I did not report it. In your case it might be something on the Android side that crashed, but I am just guessing.

+1 my unit is no longer switching back and forth. Should I also email support, or is there a known solution?
I've tried restarting the Rivian display which didn't work. I have not yet opened my dash to unplug/replug the EVPlay unit.
Thanks

I’ve had my unit installed a couple of weeks now, and it’s gotten into this state about 5 times. Button to switch to EV Play does nothing, I have to remove power from the EV Play unit to be able to switch back. Seems to work for about a 5 or so days before it gets back in this state and I have to unplug again. 🙁
I am having the same problem as well. Everything was working fine with it... but I tried to do the upgrade to 3.1 and now the button is unresponsive. I've tried numerous hard reboots... the reboot resulted in switching over, but with no touch screen support... a couple more reboots and it doesn't even switch over anymore.
Is this something to do with the 3.1 upgrade? Is there a way to go back to factory default and try again?
I too am having this issue since I completed my install about two weeks ago. Everything works fine after I remove power form the unit and reconnect it. I'm just getting tired of having to remove trim panels every week. I'll probably install a switch so I can reset the device without removing the trim panel but I want to see if Alex has a fix first.
I reached out to Alex and received a reply almost immediately. He has a fix for the issue here:

It seems pretty strait forward if you have some basic electronics skills and does require opening the unit.
hope this helps.
@ryan Thanks for reporting back! I thought that might be the same fix. Will try it this weekend.
@richard8a Just did mine. It took about 30 minutes. Most of the time was spent uninstalling and trying to get CarPlay to reconnect after the reinstall, the CarPlay issue may have been caused by my impatience. It takes EV play a few minutes to fully restart and reconnect after installing and resetting the vehicles screen. Seems to be working now but will have to see if it stays working. Good luck!
Finally had time to get to mine, and it’s back! I missed CarPlay…
It's been more than 2 weeks with the fix that Alex shared. Seems to have stabilized the experience now.
