I've really been enjoying EV Play installed a couple days ago in my gen 1 R1T.
Actually, I'm finding that I prefer the Android tablet functionality over Android Auto. The ability to load apps such as my calendar are really useful. I've also had some issues with no audio on phone calls that have been problematic with Android Auto. Think I might just skip AA, keep my phone BT and WiFi connected to the Rivian, and use the Android tablet as my main EV Play interface.
Anyway, the only thing that's missing for me is location services so that I can use Maps, Waze, etc. Was wondering if you could point us to the source of the USB GPS dongle is being used for gen 2 vehicle units. Save us some trial-and-error if there is a known good unit.
Many thanks!

Awesome, glad you are enjoying it! I actually have a few available that I put up on the site, if you're interested:

Will the GPS dangle correct the wifi concerns I'm having with the unit? EP UI will regularly lose connection from both Rivian and cell hotspot options - or - state it's connected but no internet.
@anderson I haven't heard reports of that. To confirm, you are toggling the WiFi on in the Android settings, connecting to your phone or Rivian hotspot, and it loses connectivity?
Confirmed the WiFi dongle is plugged in to a white USB port?
Hello Alex. I'm not toggling between wifi options initially. I'm letting the system select the default connection which should be the Rivian hotspot.
Both the wifi and keyboard dangle are plugged into white USB ports.
Like Rivianero, I would like to take full functionality of the tablet functions. The interface has been a struggle with multiple glitches since install.

@evplayadmin I'm very much in the same boat. The main reason that I purchased EVP was to run OnX Off-road on my Rivian display. I'd much rather run it on the EVP box and de-tether my android phone as AA seems to eat my battery even when charging.
I'll check on that GPS dongle as it seems like it would solve my issue.
@anderson If you could email me a video of this behavior via filesharing or iCloud, it would be extremely helpful.
@evplayadmin Speaking of GPS, this may be a dumb question, but I checked the gen 2 install video and it didn't mention running it anywhere so I'm not sure. If I buy the GPS module to enable GPS for maps on my Gen 1 EV Play, do I have to install it somewhere external to the vehicle? I would assume so but want to be sure before I order. Thanks.
@evplayadmin I have NO idea how I missed that, sorry! I guess that's what I get for watching videos after midnight. 😬
Did anyone get this working? I have a Gen1 install with the GPS dongle from evplay, and onX just says 'NO GPS FOUND' when I open the app. I *do* see GPS coordinates in the EVPLAY app at the top (I assume this comes from the dongle and not the canbus) and I also downloaded a GPS tester app (works, shows my location and number of satellites tracked etc...although it shows no heading, I assume this dongle does not have a built-in compass) and Google maps (also works, shows my location on the map fine). But no matter what I do onX it just reports 'no GPS' (and I double checked location permissions etc as well).
I've rebooted the EVPLAY and let it sit/sleep overnight, same behavior. Before I start unplugging things and changing ports etc I want to at least confirm somebody else has onX working on their evplay in tablet mode.
@nuclianba I've been able to get the location to show on OnX using a Bluetooth GPS unit and Bluetooth GNSS app in the play store with mock locations set. HOWEVER, it still does not recognize it as a GPS location so it won't do navigation at all. You can only see where you are on the off-road map - which is better than nothing. I've contacted OnX and they actively block mock locations, no one could tell me why, just that they are not supported. They did send me to request it as a feature though, so they may be open to it if enough people ask.
As for the usb dongle - I can't seem to get that one to work even for Maps, ABRP, etc. - I can get the position to show the first time Maps is open, but it doesn't move as I move, then greys out. The whole GPS thing is frustrating 😛 ....
From what I have been able to find out about OnX, is that it requires Google Location Services which is normally reserved for larger phone manufacturers due to the high licensing cost. Therefore, EV Play won't support it, at least not out of the box. However, there is apparently a workaround using MicroG (GMSCore). Just a warning not to brick your device!
@evplayadmin I am still very much in the same boat as nucliamba: GPS coordinates on the EV Play screen so the dongle is working, but no location services being fed to maps, weather, or other apps.
Re your post on MicroG for enabling location services, it seems the trick here is that it allows Google Services without an authenticated Google account. If that's the case, might we also enable location services if we configure EV Play to use my Google ID rather than the default local account? (Although in my previous question, you said that might break things... Still might be simpler to try than MicroG.)
