Unresponsive on First Screen Switch

I'm using EVPlay (Version 3.1) with a 2025 Rivian R1S Gen 2. When I first enter the vehicle, the screen starts at the stock Rivian UI. Then when I press the EVPlay button, the screen switches over to the EVPlay Carplay UI as expected.

But every single time, the first switch to EVPlay results in the touch screen being unresponsive. Even if I wait some time before / after triggering the switch - it's still unresponsive.

I'm able to fix the issue by switching back into the Rivian UI, waiting a few seconds, then switching back into EVPlay, then waiting a few seconds. And my 2nd switch into EVPlay restores touch functionality. But this is highly frustrating when I have to do this every single time I enter the vehicle.

I have performed the hardware fix to improve switching reliability. But that did not resolve this specific issue. I've been experiencing this ever since I first received the device months ago. I'm just now getting around to troubleshooting it.

Is there a way to get the touch input working on the first attempt EVPlay is activated when entering the vehicle?

Summary of the steps I have to take every time I enter the vehicle to get it working:

Enter Vehicle with Rivian UI on screen

-> wait ~5 seconds

-> press the EVPlay button to switch into EVPlay UI

-> wait ~5 seconds

-> touch doesnt work in EVPlay UI

-> press the EVPlay button to switch into Rivian UI

-> wait ~5 seconds

-> press the EVPlay button to switch into EVPlay UI

-> wait ~5 seconds

-> now everything works as expected

@evplayadmin I noticed the announcement for the v4.1 update, and based on your post, it sounded like it was meant to address the exact issue that I was experiencing here. But after installing the update I'm still experiencing the exact same problem as before.

I verified the app is showing version 4.1 and there aren't any older duplicate versions installed. I also tested over the course of 48 hours with multiple hard restarts to the vehicle just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

The first time I switch into the Android EVPlay UI, touch does not work and i have to switch back a 2nd time before touch works.

I'm also still experiencing the same issue with having to switch twice after the update to 4.1.
Was really excited to finally get this fixed, but unfortunately I've not noticed any change after installing 4.1. I also doublechecked the version I was running was 4.1 and no other versions are installed.

@evplayadmin after updating to version 4.20, I'm still experiencing the same problem as before with no change. Just wanted to let you know it's still happening. Tested over the course of 3 days to make sure.

@grant Confirming you rebooted the system and it is running 4.2?

@evplayadmin Correct. The update to 4.2 succeeded, I verified the new version in the app, there aren't any duplicate installations present, and I rebooted the whole Android environment with the Android UI restart button.

And just yesterday I updated the Rivian from version 2026.07 -> 2026.15... no change even after the full vehicle software update.

I’ve been using 4.2 for about a week now and the issue has improved for me. It is still not perfect, but I would say that about 9 out of 10 times the touches work on the first switch to evplay and if they don’t switching out of evplay and back resolves it.
