Hello. I just got around to installing video apps…. Apple, Prime, Netflix. Whenever I run any of them while in park, the video shuts down and returns to the Rivian UI.
When use the remote button to re-open EV Play the video is still running, but it reverts to the Rivian UI about 10 seconds later.
Also, there is no sound.
Thanks in advance.
I am experiencing the same issue, except in YouTube TV.
I experience the same often. Hoping we can get this glitch sorted out
Same here with YouTube video
This is the video-in-motion blocking...if you are Gen 1, ensure that you have updated to the latest version of the EV Play app, that you are in Park, and that no video apps are running.
For Gen 2, new CANbus cables are on their way (assuming you received my email from earlier in the week and signed up to receive the new cable). Similarly, install the latest version of the EV Play app per that email and install the new CANbus cable.
Gen 1. Installed my new device (batch #2) a day ago and hitting this issue.
EVPlay is on the latest version.
Same glitching issue while driving.
Can you elaborate more on how video-in-motion blocking works, is it EVPlay feature?
I might agree with overall concept, but can you make it optional and be disabled?
Also it applies to Youtube Music - no other video apps are playing, while driving. Keeps flipping to Rivian screen.
@evplayadmin Have there been any updates to this topic?
I purchased EV Play mostly for streaming video apps to the main screen while charging. But anytime I open a streaming app, it boots me back to the Rivian UI even though I'm parked. I drive a 2026 Rivian R1S (Gen 2), and from what I have been able to find throughout the forums is that the Gen 2 models rely on GPS to determine whether the vehicle is in motion or not. And it seems like because I don't have the GPS puck connected, it defaults to the restricted state.
Is this really the case? Because I tried to order the GPS puck and I received this response:
"After a lot of feedback from our customers we decided to stop shipping the GPS antenna. At the end of the day it was only compatible with a small handful of apps. The best solution is a Bluetooth-enabled GPS. I went ahead and refunded the cost of the GPS puck."
If the only solution is to buy a 3rd party Bluetooth-enabled GPS, could you provide a list of compatible models and some instructions on how to pair / set it up? I wasn't able to locate any details around setting up the 3rd party solution.

It is an EV Play feature and unfortunately enforced due to legal liability and ethical obligations. It cannot be disabled. YouTube Music can still be used in the Rivian Source, but it too contains video capabilities so is on the block list.
@evplayadmin I understand the need for it to block video while the car is in motion, but my problem is that all video apps are being blocked while the car is parked and motionless. How can I fix it to where video apps work while parked?

The GPS antenna was discontinued when we discovered CANbus on the Gen 2. If you had a build prior to around early November that shipped with the GPS antenna, you could contact us (still can!) and we would ship you a free Gen2 CANbus add-on cable (the one with the blue/green pins). After that, we started shipping the devices with the cables already attached.
If the CANbus cable is not properly connected (you don't see your current gear reflected in the blue Gear Indicator in the EV Play app), the device will default to blocking video as it does not know what speed you are at. Double-check your CANbus cable connection and ensure your vehicle is selected in the vehicle settings in the EV Play app. If it still doesn't work after a device restart, please reach out via email (alex@evplay.net) so we can troubleshoot.
I'm afraid I don't maintain a current list of compatible devices, but something like this:

or
https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-GLONASS-Receiver-Vehicle/dp/B00AYAZENY/
are possibilities. You could give them a try and return them if they don't.
