Yesterday everything was working fine....but I hadn't yet tucked in the EVPlay up inside the dash. Today I did and reconnected the trim...But....see the attached video. It attempts to connect to my iPhone (15 Pro Max), connects, tries to scan....and repeats ad nauseum. I've reset the Rivian, I unplugged EVPlay's power, and reconnected, but....no connection to my iPhone...As Steve Jobs would have said...it just doesn't work. 🙁
Smallest I can make the video is 13.9 MB, which is too big to upload here.
- @kimbrennan Thank you. Can you remove ("forget") the Autokit WiFi and Bluetooth connections, as well as the entry from your CarPlay vehicles on your phone, then re-pair the Bluetooth and let it connect to wifi automatically again. Let me know!
@evplayadmin Tried that. No luck. I thought at one time that it was working again, as I, finally, saw the Carplay screen again...but it was a static screen, I couldn't do anything with it and then EVPlay went back to attempting to connect to the phone again.
@kimbrennan Try setting the following in the AA/CP app:
Decoding Method: Hardware
Resolution: 2362 x 1218
Also try moving down the block. It's possible there is too much noise on the default 5GHZ. If that works, I can show you how to change the default 5GHZ channel.
I've tried both Hardware and Sofware decoding. I've also tried for many miles around Northern Virginia (from Purcellville to Burke, and in between). FWIW, I also tried moving the dongles to different white USB ports. I've tried rebooting the phone, too.
In the EVPlay UI for connections, is the autokit supposed to be paired? When I'm trying to pair my iPhone to EVPlay, what devices should I be paired with? EVPlay? Autokit? When it was working, I was paired with only Autokit, not EVPlay. But I've tied both, without success since.
@kimbrennan EV Play has two separate WiFi & Bluetooth modules and you should only connect/pair you phone with the Autokit-xxxx Bluetooth connection, at which point EV Play will create and connect to the Autobox-xxxx WiFi on its own (thus establishing the CarPlay/Android Auto connection). Make sure to unpair/forget all other connections.
Yes, but what should EVPlay pair with? Only your phone? If you "forget" the autobox connection in the EVPlay UI, will it create it by itself?
@kimbrennan That's correct. To establish the AA/CP wireless connection, you only need to make sure WiFi is on, then pair with the Autokit-xxx Bluetooth connection. Once you do that, EV Play will create the Autobox-xxxx WiFI connection and pair your phone automatically...at which point the wireless AA/CP is established. Note that once established, both connections may or may not drop off, which is okay.
Welp, I took off the trim and lowered the EVPlay back into the passenger footwell...and everything works again. :/ Got other things to investigate before I look into this again.
I shouildn't have touched anything...I was trying to set it to automatically connect, instead of me having to manually tell it to connect to my iPhone. Set it to automatically connect. Walked away from the vehicle. Came back. Won't connect again. Wouldn't even switch over to the EVPlay screen. Unplugged it. Replugged it back in, and it will now switch over to EVPlay (blank screen). But that's about all. Still won't reliably connect on bluetooth.
@kimbrennan Disconnect from WiFi on your phone to see if the screen comes back up. If it does (it should), go back in to the AA/CP app settings and ensure Decoding Method = Software.
