Microphone and USB port

I just received my Evplay. The box includes an external mic, the installation video does not address the need for this. Can you clarify when this is needed. I addition which USB port is dedicated for the carplay/android auto?

The external mic is used if you are using Android Auto. The dedicated AA/CP USB port is the single black one (not the group of 3 white/one blue).
