Just got my EVPlay today. I am having difficulty getting my hand in to where the blact video connector (above the green connector) needs to be removed. Any suggestions? Thanks
I'm having a lot of issues as well. Finally able to get the original black cable out through sheer luck. I cannot for the life of me get the new black connector plugged in. So I will take any tips on that as well. Thanks!
It's a really tight squeeze - I had a hard time as well. The used a small screwdriver to depress the latch, and help slide out the connector (while also pulling with my other hand).
Best of luck!

That's correct. Use a small screwdriver or pointy thing to depress the latch, then pull back on the cable. To insert the EV Play cable, make an upside down "L" and then push it in. Please make sure the cable is seated all the way in -- it is pretty tight by nature -- as we use that connection as a ground.
Many with big hands have enlisted the help of a child or significant other with small hands to assist!
I was able to remove the door sill trim piece which included the side trim panel. There were 5 clips holding it in.... that created a larger space in which to make the connections. Reinstall of the trim was as easy as removal.

If you have some time, I'm sure others would be interested in learning how to remove the side trim if that made things easier for you.
Awesome, thank you!
I received my EVPlay unit a week ago and tried to install it last Saturday...The first issue I had was that Rivian used T25 screws (not the T20 Alex references in the video so his nicely-provided tool didn't work) to hold the footwell cover in place. Happily I had a T25 driver (once I figured out the problem). The fuse taps went smoothly. Then I gave up trying to disconnect the video cable after about an hour of trying (including asking my 19 year-old daughter to give it a try). I made an appointment at a car stereo installation shop figuring that they'd have way more experience than I did, but this morning I went out to give it another go. Success!
I'm a big guy (265 lbs) and laying on my back on the passenger floor is not so comfortable, but it also meant that my right hand was of limited use grabbing the video connector to pull it out. What finally worked for me was to use my not-intuitive left hand to grab the cable and my right hand to control my mini-screwdriver to push the little tab. After stretching my back it was time to put insert the new connector...
As Alex says in the video, bend it at a 90-degree angle. Again, using my left hand, I was able to get it lined up and started. I then switched to my right hand and used my nail to push the cable in until it finally clicked into place.
I thought I was home free, but I had a devil of a time freeing the CANbus so that I could remove the dummy connector. I ended up using needlenose pliers to squeeze the "Christmas tree" connector that was holding it to the frame to free it up. I really appreciated Alex's video when it came time to remove the dummy connector because the Rivian side of the CANbus in my ride was much shorter than what he showed in the video and I could barely see it. Once I finally removed it connecting it was pretty easy.
My last "oh shit" moment came when I plugged in the power cable to the EVPlay unit and absolutely nothing happened. I checked my fuse taps and they looked great. I finally realized that the car had shut off completely (even though the passenger door was wide open) - probably because I turned off Bluetooth on my phone to be able to control the volume on the video. I turned Bluetooth back on, went around to the driver's side, and when the Rivian booted up I saw the lights and fan start on the EVPlay box. I still have to mount it, but I'm not too concerned about that - right now I have wrapped with a bungee cord and hooked to one of the support brackets.
@kbabione Appreciate the candid install experience and props on getting it done. It can definitely be challenging for folks of your "stature."
I haven't heard from others that the provided tool did not work, so perhaps they used different screws in your build?
@evplayadmin Mine were also T25. Gen 1 R1T 4000 series VIN.
I fiddled with those connectors for two hours but finally got it installed. I started playing with the settings. I wanted to kill an app that I had started and accidentally stopped the EVplay app. After a full reset of the Rivian, I still have a black screen. Rivian video is not being passed through. Is there a way to reset EVplay without tearing into the dash again? I also left this in a separate topic in the get-help section.
Short answer is "no". Power must be removed from EVP box in this situation. I'm back up and running now.
Admin note: before pulling power try this: exit the vehicle, lock the doors, and come back in 8 minutes. Unlock the doors, give EV Play 20 seconds or so to boot, then try switching again.
T25 here too.
Also, I ended up splurging on a Fuse Puller for $5.00 because my needle nose was too thin to get a decent grip
$5.00, was it gold-plated?!? 😉
Noted on T25 - I think it would be a little lose but still work? Let me know if not.
