@aspatnigmail-com I have a touch update coming in the next few days.
What sort of features are you looking for?!
@evplayadmin Hi Alex - I was merely following up on our conversation previously. With that said, I would love to understand if we can be CarPlay Ultra compatible soon.
Here is what I’d love to see:
1. Enable screen keyboard as an option
There's an option in the Android Settings, let me know if you need help locating it.
2. EVPlay as a floating screen over Rivian’sf
That would be great, but see above why we don't do that.
3. Ability to play YouTube in the rear screen
4. Ability to project on Driver display a full screen navigation map
I am working on the ability to project to other screens via a hardware upgrade.
5. A dedicated app/buttton within CarPlay to switch to Android’s native app list. It’s very roundabout to access it.
I like that one - I believe there is a way to add an OEM icon to CarPlay, let me look into that.
6. Automatically close any minimized video playing app in the background that affects CarPlay if left on while driving
You could probably install something like Tasker to do this.
7. The audio output of Waze’a navigation is too low. If I increase the volume then the music is too loud. Fix the Audio level of the CarPlay apps to match the general audio
I think there is a Waze setting for this, possibly?
8. Create a custom CarPlay theme that matches Rivian’s theme for consistency
I believe you can already do that in CarPlay settings.
9. Ability to switch back and forth between EVPlay and Rivian OS through touchscreen
That's a good one, or also map an unused steering wheel button.
It’s still very cool and after the manual wire cutting intervention, the CarPlay has been very stable. All the best.
Thanks!
Hey @evplayadmin - Any thoughts on these requests?
@aspatnigmail-com Hey Aj, I answered them inline to your post, did you see them?
@evplayadmin Hi Alex - Yes I did and thank you. I was curious if you will have updates to cover your responses for #4, #5 & possibly #9.
#4 - I can do it, but the high hardware minimums required these days make it tough to produce. There is some demand for it, but not enough to justify the upfront costs, unfortunately.
#5 - It is doable, but similarly, I haven't had enough requests for it. However, if you switched to gesture navigation in the Android settings, it would only be two swipes up from the bottom to reveal the app tray.
#9 - To me, a steering wheel button is the best way to switch screens. The problem is, there really isn't one available to map. We can switch between EV Play and the Rivian screen via the Switch Source button in the EV Play app, but admittedly, that's not super convenient.
We can't draw a new button on the Rivian screen, but we could do something like a 3 finger swipe to switch to EV Play. Honestly, at that point I feel the wireless button is so much easier, faster, and doesn't require you take your eyes off the road.
@evplayadmin Got it. Are there other things that are brewing and worth anticipating?
@aspatnigmail-com 2 things - we will soon be releasing our own app to replace the stock Autokit app. It's based on our EV Play LT app for GM, but ported over. If you want to beta test it, email me and I'll get you a download instructions.
Other that that, we're starting development of the next gen EV Play device which will be compatible with both the R1 and R2.
