What’s cooking for the next update for Rivian owners?
It's still a bit hush hush, but I have been working on this new AI/voice enabled app, which will run on EV Play natively. Should be announcing the beta soon.
Other that than, anything you would like to see?
couple things I'm curious if possible
- since we're plugged into CANbus can we use any ODB2 apps to get rich data on EVPlay like with a OSB2 Bluetooth dongle
- is there any way to display the rivian interface in an app on EVPlay or is the switch completely hardware and unavailable to the OS ( this could potentially be a way to pass through cameras to prevent switching back and forth all the time.
- I wonder if we could find a way to expose some of the app enabled functions in CarPlay(and android auto) eg hood, charge port heated seats/climate, gear guard etc, heck maybe even the gearguard feeds ( although they're slow over the app)

3. Ability to play YouTube in the rear screen
4. Ability to project on Driver display a full screen navigation map
5. A dedicated app/buttton within CarPlay to switch to Android’s native app list. It’s very roundabout to access it.
6. Automatically close any minimized video playing app in the background that affects CarPlay if left on while driving
7. The audio output of Waze’a navigation is too low. If I increase the volume then the music is too loud. Fix the Audio level of the CarPlay apps to match the general audio
8. Create a custom CarPlay theme that matches Rivian’s theme for consistency
9. Ability to switch back and forth between EVPlay and Rivian OS through touchscreen

- While we only access a few of the CAN IDs for EV Play, there are quite a few battery-related frames on Gen 1 that you could poke around on (I haven't explored Gen 2 that much). A great project/resource for Rivian CAN is Josh Wardell's CANServer and you may also find some help in the Comma Discord.
- That would be preferable but we try and keep the EV Play and Rivian UI's separate for a few reasons (safety, intellectual property, etc.).
- I did try playing around with the app API that was out there a while ago. I believe Rivian patched it but maybe it still works? Let me know what you find, I'm happy to take another look and build some functionality into EV Play!

I am working on the ability to project to other screens via a hardware upgrade.

I like that one - I believe there is a way to add an OEM icon to CarPlay, let me look into that.

You could probably install something like Tasker to do this.

I think there is a Waze setting for this, possibly?

I believe you can already do that in CarPlay settings.

That's a good one, or also map an unused steering wheel button.

I recommend installing G Board from the Play Store
@evplayadmin Can you offer an update on a potential workaround for apps that rely on Google Fused Location Services to work correctly?
@sparkles G Board worked. I had those original settings enabled but the option to switch it on screen was missing.
@aspatnigmail-com I would try opening the GBoard app from the app launcher and making sure it's enabled as an input device. It should show up as a separate keyboard to enable below the AOSP keyboard.

Would anyone know here on how to choose CarPlay theme that matches Rivian’s theme for consistency?
@evplayadmin just to make sure I'm understanding and don't go down a rabbit hole you're saying if I install a CANbus/ODB2 reader app I can watch the CANbus/ODB2 using the plug that evplay already has connected or do I need to add my own secondary dongle?
@liamm The only 3rd party device I know of that plugs into the existing Rivian Gen 1 CAN network (well, at least the known access points) is Josh's CANServer.
@sparkles I am looking at pushing an OS update that includes GAPPS, which should get FLS to work. If you're trying to get a GPS module to work now, you can, depending on the app, set up a mock location using an app like GPS Test, if memory serves. Run it through ChatGPT or OpenAI and it should be able to walk you through it.
