Home Screen

The Home screen is the main dashboard. It is divided into three sections.

Automations

Any automation with Show on Home enabled appears here as a colored tile in a two-column grid. Each tile shows the automation's name and a trigger-type icon. Tap a tile to run its sequence immediately. Long-press or tap the edit icon on the tile to open the automation editor.

Actions

  • Record Sequences — opens the sequence recording screen.
  • Saved Sequences — opens the list of all recorded sequences.
  • Automations — opens the automation manager.

Status

The connection card shows the current state of the Auto-Mate Remote:

  • Disconnected (dark red) — remote is not connected.
  • Scanning / Connecting (orange) — app is searching for or establishing a connection.
  • Connected (green) — remote is connected and ready. Signal strength (dBm) is shown below the status.
  • In use by another device (orange) — another phone is currently connected to this remote.

The Connect / Disconnect button is on the right side of the card. A circular progress indicator appears while scanning or connecting.

Auto-Connect checkbox: when checked (default), the app automatically connects to the remote on launch and after disconnection. Uncheck to connect manually only.

Pairing hint: if the app fails to find the remote, a tip appears reminding you to hold the Pair button for 3 seconds.

Menu (hamburger icon)

  • Settings — opens the Settings dialog.
  • Help — opens the Getting Started walkthrough.
  • About — shows app version, firmware version, and firmware update controls.

A red dot badge appears on the menu icon when a firmware update is available.

Record Sequences

This screen lets you record cursor movements and clicks as a named sequence for later playback.

Cursor Controls (D-pad)

Eight arrow buttons move the cursor on the vehicle display:

  • Single arrow — moves 10 pixels in that direction.
  • Double arrow — moves 20 pixels in that direction.

All buttons repeat while held down, accelerating after a short delay.

Recording a Sequence

  1. Tap the Record button (red). The title bar turns red and recording begins. The cursor homes to the bottom-left corner of the display.
  2. Use the D-pad arrows to move the cursor to the desired position on the vehicle display.
  3. Tap Click (center of D-pad) to record a click at the current cursor position. The step is added to the list.
  4. Repeat cursor movement + click for each tap in your sequence.
  5. To record a held press (e.g. for a slider), tap Hold and enter the hold duration in seconds. The current cursor position and hold time are saved as a step.
  6. To add a pause between steps, tap Pause and enter the pause duration in seconds.
  7. When done, tap Stop. A Save Sequence dialog appears — enter a name and tap Save.

Tapping Stop with no recorded steps cancels the recording without showing the save dialog.

Note: Sequences are played back at a faster speed to minimize the distraction of the cursor movement. The Rivian display has mouse acceleration, thus any sequence you record will likely have to be fine-tuned once you save the sequence.

Testing Before Saving

Tap Play at any time during or after recording to replay the current list of steps live on the vehicle display. The cursor homes first, executes each step, then parks in the bottom-left corner.

Other Controls

  • Home — sends the cursor to the bottom-left corner without recording a step. Use this to reset position if the cursor drifts.

Step Types

  • Click — moves to position and clicks.
  • Click & Hold — moves to position, presses, holds for the specified duration, then releases.
  • Pause — waits for the specified duration without moving or clicking.

Step List

Recorded steps appear in a scrollable two-column list at the bottom of the screen. Each entry shows the step number, position (x, y), and for hold/pause steps, the duration.

Saved Sequences

All recorded sequences are stored here. Each sequence card shows the name and step count.

Sequence Actions

  • Play (triangle icon) — runs the sequence live on the vehicle display immediately.
  • Edit (pencil icon) — opens the sequence editor.
  • Copy (duplicate icon) — creates a copy of the sequence with "_copy" appended to the name.
  • Delete (trash icon) — deletes the sequence and all its steps after confirmation.

Sequence Editor

The editor opens as a dialog. At the top is the sequence name field. Below it is the step list.

For each step:

  • X / Y fields — the pixel coordinates from the home corner. Edit these to fine-tune the exact tap position.
  • Name field — optional label for the step (for your reference).
  • Swipe direction — set the step to perform a swipe instead of a click. Options: click (default), right, left, up, down.
  • Delete (X button) — removes the step.

Drag handle (three-line icon): drag steps up or down to reorder them. Items animate smoothly into new positions.

Add Step: enter an X, Y, and optional name at the bottom of the list and tap the add (+) button.

Play button (next to "Steps" heading): runs the current edited steps live on the vehicle display to test changes before saving.

Export / Import buttons at the bottom: export this sequence as a JSON file or import a sequence from a JSON file.

Automations

Automations run saved sequences automatically based on triggers. They run in the background even when the app is closed or the screen is off.

Automation List

Each automation card shows the name, trigger icon, and a toggle switch. The card color matches the tile color set in the editor.

Actions:

  • Toggle switch — enables or disables the automation.
  • Edit (pencil icon) — opens the automation editor.
  • Copy (duplicate icon) — creates a copy and immediately opens it for editing.
  • Delete (trash icon) — deletes the automation after confirmation.

Tap the + floating button to create a new automation.

Automation Editor

Creating or editing an automation opens a dialog with the following fields:

Name

A descriptive name for the automation. This name also appears on the home screen tile.

Action Sequence

Select the saved sequence to run when this automation triggers. The dropdown lists all sequences you have recorded.

Trigger

Select when this automation fires:

  • Speed Above — fires once when vehicle speed rises above the specified mph threshold.
  • Speed Below — fires once when vehicle speed drops below the specified mph threshold.
  • Enter Location — fires when the vehicle enters the GPS geofence.
  • Exit Location — fires when the vehicle leaves the GPS geofence.
  • Auto-Mate Connect — fires when the Auto-Mate Remote connects to the app (e.g., when you get in the car).
  • Manual — does not fire automatically. Run it by tapping the tile on the Home screen.

Speed Trigger Settings

Enter the speed threshold in mph. The trigger fires on the crossing — speed must have been on the other side of the threshold before it fires again.

Location Trigger Settings

Latitude / Longitude: enter coordinates manually or tap the crosshair icon to use your current GPS location.

Radius: the geofence radius in feet. The automation fires when the vehicle enters or exits this circle.

Speed qualifier: optionally restrict the location trigger to also require a speed condition:

  • Off — no speed check. Fires on location change alone.
  • At — fires only when speed is at or below the specified mph (e.g., "At 0" means stopped).
  • Over — fires only when speed is above the specified mph.
  • Under — fires only when speed is below the specified mph.

Enter 0 mph for "stopped" (speed < 0.5 mph).

Wait N seconds for speed condition: after the location trigger is met, the app waits up to N seconds (default 15) for the speed condition to also be satisfied. If the speed condition is not met within this grace period, the automation does not fire. Set to 0 to require both conditions simultaneously.

Once until exit: when enabled, the location trigger fires at most once per entry (or once per exit, for Exit Location). It won't fire again until you leave and re-enter the geofence.

Auto-Mate Connect Settings

No additional settings are required. The trigger fires each time the remote connects. It will not re-fire on brief BLE dropouts (8-second debounce).

If a Proximity Threshold is set in Settings, the trigger will only fire if the signal strength meets the threshold.

Chaining Automations (Only fire after)

The "Only fire after" dropdown lets you set a dependency: this automation will not fire unless the selected automation has already fired at least once. Once this automation fires, the required automation is re-armed so the cycle can repeat.

Fire Once

When enabled (only shown when "Only fire after" is set), this automation fires only once per cycle. After it fires, it is disabled until the required automation fires again and re-arms it.

Tile Appearance

Tile color: tap the color swatch in the dialog title to open the HSV color picker. Choose any color for the home screen tile.

Show on Home: when enabled (default), the automation appears as a tile on the Home screen. Disable to hide it from the home screen while keeping it active.

Settings

Open from Menu (hamburger icon) and click on Settings.

Home Screen

When enabled, after any automation finishes running its sequence, the cursor will click a specified position on the vehicle display. Use this to return to a home screen or app launcher after an automation navigates away.

Screen selector: choose which screen position to click from Screen 1 through Screen 5. The default coordinates match typical infotainment navigation bar positions.

Tap Edit to fine-tune the X and Y coordinates for each of the five screen positions.

Proximity Threshold

Applies to Auto-Mate Connect automations only. When set to a non-zero value (e.g., 70), the automation will only fire if the Bluetooth signal strength is at or above -70 dBm.

Typical values: 70 (inside car), 85 (right outside the car). Enter 0 or leave blank to disable.

Data

Export: saves all sequences and automations to a JSON file. Use this to back up your configuration or transfer it to another phone.

Import: restores sequences and automations from a previously exported JSON file. Existing data is erased so keep that in mind!

About & Firmware Updates

Open from Menu > About.

Displays the current app version and firmware version of the connected Auto-Mate Remote.

Firmware Updates

The app automatically checks for firmware updates once per day when the remote connects. If an update is available, a red dot badge appears on the menu icon and a notification appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap View to go directly to the About screen.

To check manually, tap Check for Firmware Update.

When an update is available, the update card shows the new version number and release notes. Tap Install Update to begin.

Installation progress: a green progress bar shows the percentage complete. The update sends the firmware over Bluetooth directly to the remote.

Important: Do not remove power from the Auto-Mate Remote or close the app while a firmware update is in progress. Interrupting the update may require the remote to be recovered.

After installation completes, the remote will reboot automatically. The app will reconnect and confirm the new firmware version.

Bluetooth Connection & Pairing

Connecting

Tap Connect on the Home screen. If Auto-Connect is enabled, the app connects automatically when you open it or when the remote comes into range.

Pairing a New Phone

  1. Hold the Pairing button (the one with the red dot) on the Auto-Mate Remote for 3 seconds. The LED blinks green — the remote is in pairing mode.
  2. Open the app and tap Connect.
  3. The app finds and pairs with the remote automatically.

Although multiple phones can be paired, only one phone can be connected at a time. If another phone is connected, the connection status will notify you of such.

Clearing All Paired Phones

Hold the Pairing button (the one with the red dot) for 10 seconds total. The LED turns solid red for 2 seconds to confirm all pairings have been cleared, then returns to blinking green. The remote is ready to pair with a new phone and will continue in pairing mode for the next 30 seconds.

Auto-Connect

Enabled by default. The app scans for and connects to the remote automatically on launch and after a disconnection. Uncheck the Auto-Connect checkbox on the Home screen to disable.

Background Operation

Auto-Mate runs as a persistent foreground service. Automations evaluate triggers and execute sequences even when:

  • The app is in the background.
  • The phone screen is off.
  • The app has been swiped away from the recent apps list.

A persistent notification appears in the notification shade while the service is running. This is required by Android for background Bluetooth and GPS access.

The service restarts automatically if the system kills it. Automations resume as soon as it restarts.

Import & Export

All sequences and automations can be exported as a JSON backup file from the Settings screen.

The export file contains all action sequences with their steps and all automations with their trigger configuration. Import it on another phone or restore it after reinstalling the app.

Individual sequences can also be exported from the Saved Sequences screen by tapping Edit on a sequence and then Export.
