Not sure if this has been answered yet, but is there any actual difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions of the EV Play units, or are they the same with different accessories? I'm just wondering because I currently own a Gen 1 R1T, but am considering trading for a Gen 2. I'm just wondering if I'll just be able to take the unit out of the old one and install it in the new.

The devices are identical, but there are slight differences in the functionality as of now. I'm currently looking to replicate the auto-switching functionality based on which gear you are in, which is only available on Gen 1 as of now. Auto-switching allows EV Play to automatically switch to the Rivian UI when you put the vehicle in reverse, thereby displaying the backup cameras. It also does the same when you put in Park, if you set that preference. Gen 1 has easy access to the CANbus, but in Gen 2 they removed the connector. I am currently trying to find a way to access the CANbus on Gen 2 that is as easy as Gen 1. I hope to have a solution soon.
In the meantime, I am shipping a GPS antenna, which does allow auto-switching when the vehicle arrives to a pre-set location you set.
