I haven’t seen this issue anywhere else in the forum, but thought I would make a post in case anyone else has also experienced this but not yet posted, or if any of you have ideas!
CarPlay works as intended (only issue is occasional not switching video, hoping the install of Watch Dog today helps that!), however when parked in my garage at home my iPhone won’t connect to WiFi because it is still connected to CarPlay. I go into settings and manually select the home WiFi network, get a pop-up that joining this WiFi network will disconnect CarPlay and I accept, and everything works but then a minute later my phone auto-joins CarPlay again and my phone internet no longer works again.
I have terrible cell coverage at my house and am dependent on WiFi for both browsing and calling, and it is very tedious to forget the autokit connection and then repair every time so unfortunately I have started only using EV Play for longer roadtrips until I can get this figured out.
Any tips/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
A few things you can do here:
1) EV Play will shut down a few minutes after you exit the vehicle and Android Auto/CarPlay too will turn off. A lot of people don't realize they are constantly waking their vehicle and so it's really a good idea to lock your car and keep your phone out of range of the vehicle at home so that it can actually sleep. Like us humans, that's when the vehicle rests and repairs itself (and why Rivian customer service sometimes suggests having your vehicle do a deep sleep when you encounter certain issues). This constant waking/sleeping might also create the issue where EV Play stops switching. If this is absolutely not an option...
2) ...you can set EV Play to manually connect to Android Auto/CarPlay by changing the Connection preference to "Manual" in the AA/CP (Autokit) app settings. In this mode, you simply pair with the Autokit Bluetooth signal when you get in the vehicle, and EV Play will do the rest. There are also apps that do this for you automatically when you get in the car, to make it a bit more automated.
@evplayadmin Thanks for the suggestions, will try them out.
I already have the car locked and home location set to proximity unlock off so I know that it isn’t an issue, which is why I thought the behavior was odd…maybe I’m just too impatient and need to try waiting 10+ minutes to see if the behavior goes away, lol. But I’ll look into some of the automated options, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
@scvr1s You can also try the "back seat test" by sitting in the back middle seat (no pressure sensors) and locking the doors. If you can see/hear EV Play the fan should stop spinning and the blue/red internal light stop flashing about 3 to 5 minutes after you lock it. If not, perhaps check the power leads aren't swapped.
