EV PLAY LT FOR CHEVY/GMC EVS - FAQs

What is EV Play LT?

EV Play LT is EV Play’s little brother. With the help of a custom app running on your GM infotainment system and a small hardware device that plugs in to your vehicle’s USB port, EV Play LT provides wired and wireless CarPlay (Android Auto coming soon) on many General Motors electric vehicles. Unlike it’s bigger brother, EV Play Lite does not include an Android computer and so cannot run native Android apps.

Which General Motors EVs are compatible with EV Play Lite?

As of now, we have confirmed compatibility with the Equinox, Blazer, and Silverado. We have not tested with the Sierra, or the Cadillac Celestiq, Optiq, and Escalade IQ/IQL. That will probably change as we get closer to our ship date. If you have one of those vehicles, please fill out this form to subscribe for updates.

Is it easy to install?

Super-easy. Download the software and plug the EV Play LT device in to your vehicle’s USB port. We’ll have install and walk-through videos posted to our YouTube channel as we get closer to shipping.

Can GM disable this after I install it?

The short answer is “yes.” It would not be easy for them to do so, nor would it be immediate or automatic; however, it is an eventual possibility. We would obviously keep up the good fight as long as we could, but ultimately they are in control of their system and customers should accept the fact that GM could eventually disable this. Of course, the question that always goes along with “can they,” is “will they,” which is really only a question GM can answer. We are all in agreement that it would be ridiculous for them to do so, as a happy GM customer is a loyal GM customer. There are far too many EVs both available now and coming on to the market that offer CarPlay/Android Auto. At the end of the day it’s their company and their choice, but you can’t argue with the data that shows customers very much want the option and will choose alternatives when those features aren’t available. Keeping this all in mind, we’ve come up with a pricing model that we feel de-risks the purchase a bit. Read on…

How much does EV Play LT cost?

EV Play LT costs $229. Because there is a remote chance of GM eventually blocking it and us not being able to un-block it — again, not likely, but possible — we’ve come up with a pricing model that we feel is fair for everyone.  Instead of paying the whole amount up front, we’re going to ask for a $55 pre-order deposit to cover the cost of the hardware and shipping. Once you receive you unit, we’ll then start charging $29 per month for the next 6 months ($229 when adding it all up). No contract or anything like that. On the off chance EV Play LT gets blocked during that 6 months and we can’t find a way around it, then you don’t have to pay any more and we’ll gladly prorate & refund the current month’s charge upon request. Call it a crazy rent-to-own/pay-over-time model.
